A fresh new take on a free-range bird.

At Boy & Bird flavours fly free. It’s a fresh new take on a free-range bird. The idea grew from Mike’s childhood on the farm, and the desire to deliver a unique little escape on Ponsonby’s main strip – the idea of a boy and a bird on an adventure. The identity and name have a sense of playful nostalgia and joy, referencing the small-town diner, and share a playful simplicity that relates to the simplicity of the fare being offered.

We created a manifesto that would reflect Boy & Bird’s underlying ethos. In real life, the “boy” is Mike van de Elzen and the “bird” is co-owner Marie Colosimo, one of Auckland’s most experienced front-of-house stars.

The interior fit-out is ‘casually comfortable’, inviting customers to roam and explore. Bright colourful illustrations are both fun and frivolous. Boy & Bird is a great escape to quality fast food for the whole family that can be enjoyed time and time again.

Chef Michael van de Elzen’s philosophy on ‘everyday fast food made well’ is something we believe in whole-heartedly. For us, working with him is a chance to support NZ business from the ground-up and support local New Zealanders doing good things.
